A two-person debate from Independence High School finishes 4th at this weekend’s Kansas 4A State Debate Championships held at Community Elementary in Coffeyville.

The team of Peyton Connors and Audrey Kaiser advanced to the quarterfinal round of the tournament where they fell to the Parsons team of Chei Tsinnahjinnie and Payton Corbett. Connors and Kaiser finished 4th overall with a tournament record of 5wins and 2 losses. Their performance marks the highest state placing for an IHS debate team in the past 15 years.

Also representing IHS at this weekend’s State tournament were Sophie Ballew and Isabella Martinez, who went 3-3 and finished 11th overall.
