The Parsons Police Department is investigating a shots-fired incident.
PPD officers were called to the 2600 to 2700 block of Stevens Avenue after multiple reports of gunfire. Callers reported a silver Buick leaving the area immediately after the shots were fired. Officers located a vehicle matching that description a short time later in the 200 block of South Central Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Police say firearms were visible inside the vehicle and there were signs the weapons had recently been fired.
The driver, Steven Knapper, and a passenger, Traeton Ginder, were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple rifles and handguns, including one reported stolen, along with ammunition, a spent rifle casing, suspected marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms packaged in a way consistent with distribution. The vehicle was seized.
Investigators later found multiple shell casings at a home on Stevens Avenue, confirming rounds were fired near a residence. Police say the gunfire was exchanged between the vehicle and people at the home and stemmed from a dispute over a twenty-dollar marijuana payment. No injuries were reported.
