An 18-year-old Girard High School student is killed in a weekend shooting in Pittsburg.

 

Police say 18-year-old Adam Basauri was shot and killed in an incident in Pittsburg's Schlanger Park around 9pm on Friday night. Officers arrived on the scene to find Basauri suffering from a gunshot wound. First-aid measures were taken but, the Girard High School senior was pronounced deceas3ed at the scene.

 

Police have arrested a 17-year-old Pittsburg boy as a suspect in the case. The juvenile was located in Arma shortly after the shooting and taken into custody. Authorities say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation between the suspect and victim.

 

The 17-year-old suspect was taken to the Southeast Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Girard where he has been charged with second degree murder in the case.
