A jury finds the defendant in a 2022 double murder in Baxter Springs guilty on all charges.
On Friday, a Cherokee County jury found 44-year-old Kyle Butts of Independence, MO, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of interference with a law enforcement officer.
The charges stemmed from an incident on November 28, 2022, that left 47-year-old Jeremy Murphy and 59-year-old Craig Guinn dead. Another victim 27-year-old Seth Guinn suffered serious injuries in the attack. The jury deliberated for about five hours before returning the verdict.
The crime was jointly investigated by the Baxter Springs Police Department, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
