2026 is America’s 250th birthday and the City of Independence has plans to join in the festivities.

 

The Chairperson of Independence 250 Theresa Mitchell spoke last week at First Friday in Independence. Mitchell says the founders of the City named the town after the idea of the founding of the country.

 

Mitchell added that the group has planned and organized some fun events for the coming year, including a community wide picnic in June and a big celebration for July 4th. Activities kicked off this past weekend with an American History Quiz Bowl at the Civic Center.
