Kansas Legislative Session Starts Today

The Kansas Legislature is back in session today in Topeka.

State Senator Virgil Peck says there are a number of priorities he thinks will be tackled this session. Peck says while there's been a lot of talk about redistricting, he doesn't think there is any chance of that happening.

Peck says he continues to get a lot of feedback on property taxes. One proposed plan is to cap property valuation increases at 3 or 4 percent by law or by changing the Kansas Constitution.

Some surrounding states, including Oklahoma, have banned cell phone use during the school day. Peck says that a bill for Kansas is in the works.

As the session gets started, Governor Laura Kelly will deliver the State of the State address tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Early next month, KGGF will broadcast live from the statehouse during SEK Day on the Hill.
