The Independence City Commission will meet tonight for its first meeting of 2026.
On tonight’s agenda is the authorization to release Community Development Block Grant funds for the Riverside Park Playground Project and to agree to changes in the grant agreement with the Kansas Department of Commerce. Commissioners will also consider action on eight properties in the City deemed dangerous and unsafe. The Independence Housing Authority is also expected to request the authorization to use the vacant lot at 401 North 10th Street to construct a 3-D printed demonstration home.
Commissioners Tim White and Scott Smith will also be sworn into office and a new mayor and vice-mayor will be chosen for 2026.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30 in the Commission Room at City Hall. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the City's website.
