Man charged in Reno County with Illegal Voting in Kansas

A man in Hutchinson is charged with illegally voting in Kansas elections.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach annnounced yesterday (Tuesday) that his office has filed charges against Jose Luis Gomez Sr with one count of voting without being qualified and two counts of election perjury. All three charges were filed in Reno County and are non-person felonies.

Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab referred the case to Kobach’s office, using the System Alien Verification for Entitlement or SAVE program to identify Kansas electors who are not U.S. citizens. Gomez is a convicted felon and is currently in custody in Oklahoma pending deportation.

Kobach stated that voting by both legal and non-legal indivuduals who are not U.S. citizens is a real problem and that each time a non-citizen votes, it cancels out the vote of an American citizen.
