Tax receipts for the State of Kansas in December come in below estimates.
The total tax receipts for the last month of 2025 came in at $1.07 billion. That number is about 5% or nearly $59 million below estimates. Receipts were also nearly 5% lower than December 2024. Both individual income and corporate taxes fell in December, driving the lower-than-projected numbers. Individual taxes were $37 million or 7.6% below expectations while corporate taxes dropped even more. Those receipts were $22 million or 8.9% below estimates and 19% less than a year ago.
Governor Laura Kelly called the recent numbers a reminder that while recent tax returns have been positive, there is no guarantee that those trends will continue.. Kelly urged a fiscally responsible, disciplined approach to the budget as state lawmakers prepare to return to Topeka for the new Legislative session that begins next week.
