Issues brought to light by the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office prompts a heated back-and-forth at today’s Montgomery County Commission meeting.
County Appraiser Melody Kikkert appeared before the commission to discuss a series of emails received by the Secretary of State’s Office. Kikkert says the S-O-S Office has informed the County that there are issues with the county’s redistricting maps.
The issue first came to light early in 2025. However, County Clerk Ami Standridge says she has no recollection of a meeting on the subject.
Part of the problem appears to be whether or not the Clerk’s Office receive the initial maps from the Kansas Election Voter Information System also known as ELVIS. Commission Robert Bever says the Clerk’s Office is responsible for the information.
The commission decided to consult former County Clerk Charlotte Scott-Schmidt for assistance in the matter.
