A 14-year-old is dead following a weekend shooting in Salina.

Salina Police were called to the scene in South Salina around 9:45 on Friday night after 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a shooting incident. Officers arrived to find the juvenile male suffering from a single gunshot wound. The boy was taken to Salina Regional Hospital in critical condition and was then transferred to a Wichita Hospital for a higher level of care.  The boy later succumbed to his wound.

Salina police have arrested a 15-year-old male acquaintance of the victim in connection to the case. He has been booked into the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated battery and criminal use of a weapon. Additional charges are possible. The investigation remains ongoing.
