Police in Pottawatomie County are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Manhattan over the weekend.
The incident began just after 3pm on Saturday, when deputies from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department were called to a residence located just east of the City. When they arrived, the homeowner told them that the garage at the home had been damaged by gunfire. As deputies took the report, they heard more gunfire that they believed was coming from the residence. At that point, a man later identified as 38-year-old Brian Lovgren came out of the house, armed with a handgun. One of the deputies fired multiple shots, striking Lovgren. The man was taken to a Kansas City hospital where he remains in critical condition. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting. When this investigation concludes, case findings will be presented to the Pottawatomie County Attorney to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
