The Neodesha City Commission looks to ensure compliance with the Kansas Open Meetings Act or KOMA during public comments.
At a recent meeting, commissioners discussed the importance of public comments while also ensuring issues raised by the public do not become business items. Commissioner Ed Truelove says it's important to maintain agenda items so the public knows what business will occur at city meetings.
A stricter adherence to comment time limits and discussion of the issues raised will help the commission ensure they are following the law. Mayor Devin Johnson says he would like to see guidelines for public comments set forth on the meeting agenda.
No action was taken on the issue because the discussion took place during the commissioner comment portion of the meeting.
