Chiefs Moving to Kansas

A pro sports team announces it's plans to move across the border into Kansas.

In a joint press conference, the Kansas City Chiefs and Governor Laura Kelly announce the plans for the team to move to Kansas in 2031. Governor Laura Kelly says in her seven years as governor she has gotten to make some really big announcements but none bigger than this.  Governor Kelly says Kansas is not a flyover state but a touchdown state. She says the economic impact will be massive.

The project will be financed through a public-private partnership, 60% public to 40% private. The public portion is funded through STAR bonds and the Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund. Both of these funds were established specifically for this purpose and to ensure that there will be no new state taxes and no impact on the state budget. The Chiefs will make the move to Kansas in 2031.
