A 77-year-old man is killed while crossing US-77 on foot on Friday evening.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Thomas McHugh of Riley, Kansas, was crossing South on US-77 at the junction with US-24 near the City of Riley just after 6pm on Friday evening. A 1997 Chevy Lumina driven by 63-year-old Steven Williams of Green, Kansas, was traveling Southbound on U77 and struck McHugh in the southbound lane. McHugh landed in the Northbound lane of
US-77 where he was struck by a second vehicle, a 2017 Chevy Silverado driven by 20-year-old Jude Benson of Clay Center, Kansas.
McHugh was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Williams and his passenger 71-year-old Brenda Williams were both taken to a nearby hospital for possible injuries after complaints of pain. Benson was uninjured.
