A Pittsburg man is dead after he is struck by a car while walking along a roadway near Pittsburg.

The accident happened just after midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 37-year-old Nicklas Thompson was walking in the roadway on South 260th Street about a mile and a half north of K-171, when he was hit by a 2020 Hyundai Elantra driven by 54-year-old Melinda Canet, also of Pittsburg. Thompson was fatally injured in the accident while Canet sustained minor injuries and was treated at a Pittsburg hospital.
