KBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting

 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investgating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday in Leavenwoth.

 

Around 3:30 Thursday afternoon, Leavenworth Police were called to local bank branch after receiving reports of an armed individual. Officers arrived on the scene to find a man wearing a trench coat and a surgical mask who was armed with a rifle. The man was identified as 24-year-old Andrew Hutchinson of Leavenworth.

 

Hutchinson initially complied with officer commands but then fled on foot through an alley behind the bank. Officers gave chase and one fired at the suspect, striking him. The rifle was secured and officers gave first-aid to the suspect until EMS arrived. Hutchinson was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. He is expected to recover from his wounds.

 

Agents from the KBI are investigating the shooting, and will then present their findings to the Leavenworth County Attorney's Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
