Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announces the date for her upcoming State of the State address on January 13.
Kelly announced that she accepted the invitation from Kansas Speaker of the House Dan Hawkins to deliver her remarks to a joint session of the Kansas Legislature. The purpose of a governor’s State of the State address is to report on the condition of the state and outline priorities for the future. In the speech, Governor Kelly is expected to review key accomplishments of her administration over the past year and to propose her policy goals for 2026. The State of the State address sets the tone for the legislative session. It also serves to inform the public, guide lawmakers, and build support for the governor’s agenda.
Kelly will address the joint session of the Legislature at the beginning of the 2026 Legislative session. State lawmakers return to Topeka on January 12.
