Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issues a drought watch for counties in eastern Kansas.
Kelly signed a proclamation on Friday afternoon proclaiming 43 counties in the eastern third of the state in a drought watch. Counties included in the watch are Montgomery, Wilson, Labette, Elk, Cherokee, Crawford, Bourbon, Allen, Woodson, Greenwood, and Butler. The proclamation was issued following a recommendation from the Director of the Kansas Water Office Connie Owen.
Counties in a watch status have conditions that indicate the rising probability of a water shortage. It is important for residents in counties under the watch to monitor conditions and be mindful of water usage. This proclamation shall remain in effect for those counties identified until rescinded by a proclamation ending the declaration or revising the drought stage status of the affected counties.
Here is a list of all of the counties now under the drought watch:
Allen, Anderson, Atchison, Bourbon, Brown, Butler, Cherokee, Clay, Cloud, Coffey, Crawford, Dickinson, Doniphan, Douglas, Elk, Franklin, Geary, Greenwood, Jackson, Jefferson, Jewell, Johnson, Labette, Leavenworth, Linn, Lyon, Marshall, Miami, Montgomery, Morris, Nemaha, Neosho, Osage, Ottawa, Pottawatomie, Republic, Riley, Shawnee, Wabaunsee, Washington, Wilson, Woodson, Wyandotte.
