Ceremonial Ground Breaking for Potential Nuclear Reactor Project

A groundbreaking is held at the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons for an underground nuclear reactor project.

Several questions arose from the public after this announcement was made last week. Deep Fission CEO Liz Muller says they want to hear from the people and answer all of their questions.  Head of the Great Plains Industrial Park Board Bob Woods says they refer to Deep Fission as their egg, when it comes to supplying power at the park.

The project is part of the Department of Energy's new Reactor Pilot Program. The reactor would operate at a depth of about one mile underground. The depth provides many benefits, including reduced surface construction costs normally associated with nuclear power plants. Each reactor will generate up to 15 megawatts of electric power.
