The Mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, resigns amid controversy over the status of his citizenship.

Joe Ceballos resigned from his position yesterday in light of investigation by Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach into Ceballos' citizenship. Kobach's office announced last month that Ceballos would be prosecuted for three counts of voting without being qualified and three counts of election perjury. A report from the Department of Homeland Security says Ceballos obtained a green card in 1990 and applied for U.S. citizenshiip in 2025.

Ceballos' resignation was effective immediately.
