Kansas broadband receives federal approval from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the $166.6 million final proposal for the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment or BEAD program.

The move will advance efforts to deliver high-speed internet to more than 26,000 eligible homes and businesses across the state. Kansas’ plan details a comprehensive implementation strategy, reflecting collaborative negotiations with federal and industry partners. Leaders emphasized that this approval marks a major step toward connecting every Kansas community with modern broadband infrastructure.

The approved plan includes private contributions of $61.3 million and achieved a 63% reduction in federal allocation. The approval means Kansas Broadband can move into the next phase of implementation which includes finalizing contracts, ensuring compliance, and supporting subgrantees—aiming for groundbreaking in the second half of 2026 as the state advances toward future-ready connectivity.
