An accident Tuesday morning involving the rollover of a semi truck carrying thousands of pounds of hydrochloric acid causes road closures near McPherson .
The truck was carrying 34,000 of the acid when it overturned at the intersection of Kansas Avenue and the Old 81 Bypass around 9am. The truck rolled while attempting a turn onto US-56. Emergency responders and hazmat crews closed the nearby roadways and evacuated structures, thinking it was possible that thousand of gallons of the chemical could have spilled. As clean-up continued, crews learned that only about 20 gallons of the acid actually spilled.
The driver of the semi was uninjured in the accident.
