A man in Miami, OK, faces charges of stealing copper wire following a Thanksgiving morning arrest.
A Miami Police officer spotted 48-year-old Charles Reeves walking out of an alley way around 4:30 on Thanksgiving morning. The officer recognized Reeves as having an outstanding warrant and made contact with the suspect. During the arrest, officers found wire cutters, a folding saw, bolt cutters, and even tree-climbing gear with spikes. An investigation of the alley in which Reeves was discovered revealed a utility pole with a 70 to 80 foot section of utility cable hanging from it. Authorities say Reeves claimed he had used the equipment to trim some branches at home. Officers later discovered a burn pit with previously burned wire at his home.
Reeves was arrested on the outstanding warrant and also charges for copper theft, and theft of burglary tools and paraphernalia. He also remains a suspect in a previous copper-theft investigation.
