The first snowfall of the year for the area is expected today.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will spread eastward across the area this morning and afternoon. Peak snowfall for southeast Kansas will be between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Snow is expected to shift east into Missouri after 5 p.m.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Sedgwick, Butler, Greenwood and Woodson Counties and areas to the north and west through 6 tonight. An advisory is also in place for most of northeast Oklahoma through noon.
Montgomery County and areas to the south will likely see less than an inch of snow. Accumulation is expected north of Eureka, where there could be between 1 and 2 inches of snow. North central Kansas is expected to receive up to 4 inches.
