CPD Approved for Federal ICE Program

The Coffeyville Police Department is approved to take part in a federal program through U.S. Immigration and Customs.

The Coffeyville Police Department has been approved to participate in the federal program under ICE’s Task Force Model, which grants specially trained officers limited authority to assist with federal immigration enforcement only in specific situations, such as when an individual already in CPD custody has an ICE detainer.

Police Chief Kwin Bromley and City Manager Ben Brubaker stressed that the program will not change CPD’s community-focused approach, does not involve proactive immigration sweeps, and will not affect how officers respond to calls for service. Instead, it allows CPD to legally hold individuals with existing ICE detainers and collaborate with ICE when federal immigration law intersects with local criminal investigations.

City officials emphasized that the initiative is rooted in public safety, protects due process, and maintains equal treatment for all Coffeyville residents, with a continued commitment to transparency.
