Kansas Farmer Indicted by Grand Jury For Insurance Fraud Related to Crop Loss

A Holcomb farmer is indicted by a federal grand jury for filing a fraudulent crop loss insurance claim.

The indictment came from a grand jury in Wichita against 54-year-old David L. Mongeau. Mongeau faces two counts of making a false statement and 17 counts of bank fraud or attempted bank fraud. The indictment alleges that Mongeau filed a false claim for crop loss and then received payment after failing to disclose thousands of bushels of wheat that he reported as ruined.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investigating the case. Prosecution will be handled by an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
