The Coffeyville City Commission approves a $600,000 loan to a community group to aid in the potential repair of the USD 445 Natorium roof.
At this week's meeting, the Friends of the Charlesworth Natorium spoke to the commission asking for not only support in this project but also financial help. Group Representative Ryan Thompson says they've raised around one million of the estimated $1.6 million needed for their part in the project. The estimated total cost of the project is $2.4 million, with the school district agreeing to pay the estimated cost of demolition at around $800,000. Mayor Deborah Maples makes the motion for approval of the loan.
The money for this loan comes from a fund set aside for economic development, which has about $1.2 million in it. The USD 445 school board is likely to make a decision on the natorium at their December 8th board meeting. The district has been considering the option of roof repair since finding out the condition of the roof when new HVAC units were being installed earlier this year.
