The City of Independence and the Ad Astra Trails Collective will be hosting a run/walk on the new Verdigris Vista Trail on Thanksgiving morning.

 

Lacey Lies from the City of Independence says it's a great way to enjoy some fun family fitness before the Thanksgiving meal.

 

The 2025 Turkey Trot begins at the Verdigris Vista Trailhead located near Miss Able’s Snack Shack in Riverside Park. The path is 2.3 miles along the newly opened Verdigris Vista Trail and follows the former Interurban train path to Wells Drive. From there, the natural surface hiking trail travels along the banks of the Verdigris River before looping back to the park.

 

The event is not a race, but is designed for a casual, family-friendly walk or run on Thanksgiving morning. The trail is stroller-friendly and dogs on leashes are welcome, too.

 

Check-in begins at 9:30 and the Turkey Trot begins at 10 on Thursday. Participants are advised to wear weather-appropriate clothing and good shoes and bring a water bottle. To register, follow this link.
