An Altoona woman is dead after being struck by a train while walking across the railroad tracks.

21-year-old Angel Stephens suffered fatal injuries on Saturday afternoon when she was hit by a train while crossing the railroad tracks near Commercial and 7th Street in Altoona. Stephens was walking west along 7th Street around 3pm when she stepped onto the tracks and into the path of a northbound Union Pacific train. Investigators from the Kansas Highway Patrol says they believe Stephens did not hear or see the train before attempting to cross the tracks.
