The suspect in a Eureka Springs double homicide is dead by his own hand in an Oklahoma jail.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Department in Arkansas, says they were informed by officials in Oklahoma that 56-year-old Travis Lee McConnell hanged himself in his jail cell. McConnell was a suspect in the deaths of 77-year-old Joy Willmeth and 71-year-old Robert Willmeth. The couple was found shot to death in their Eureka Springs home last week. McConnell was the couple's son.
McConnell was also a suspect in a first-degree assault in Lawrence County, Missouri, on November 12th. In that incident, the suspect allegedly fired a gun at a woman and told her he had killed people in Arkansas.
McConnell was arrested in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, earlier this week and was being held in the Pittsburg County Detention Center in McAlester on a felony DUI warrant from Missouri when he took his own life.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances surrounding McConnell's death.
