One person is dead and a teen is injured following a car accident near Great Bend.

 

The accident occurred just before 9pm on Wednesday night when a 2016 Ford Fusion driven by 72-year-old Mark DeWald of Great Bend crossed the center line on K-96 and collided head-on with a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a 17-year-old. The pickup then caught fire.

 

DeWald was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 17-year-old sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Great Bend hospital for treatment.

 

The Barton County Sheriff's Office says DeWald may have had a medical incident before the crash occurred. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
