The Independence City Commission gets an update on the start of a public works project.
At Thursday's meeting, City Engineer John Garris updated commissioners on the Beech Street culvert replacement project. Beech Street has been closed between Crescent and 13th for several weeks following the collapse of the culvert. Garris says the repairs likely won't begin until the new year.
The area will remain closed to traffic until the project is complet out of concern for safety.
In other business, the commission also set the date for public hearings on seven derelict properties in the City for the February 12 meeting.
The next Independence City Commission meeting will be December 11.
