Authorities in McDonald County, Missouri, identify the suspect in a officer-involved shooting that occurred last weekend.
Authorities say 32-year-old Dylan Martinez is the man who engaged in an exchange of gunfire with an off-duty deputy on Sunday morning in Powell, Missouri. The deputy was at home when he noticed an unknown vehicle parked in his driveway. As the deputy was waiting for an on-duty law enforcement officer to arrive, Martinez approached him and the car. When the deputy identified himself as a member of the McDonald County Sheriff's Department, the man began to back away. He then produced a gun and fire at the deputy, striking him in the leg. The deputy returned fire, hitting Martinez.
Martinez was taken via Air Ambulance to a Joplin hospital and then transferred to Springfield, where he remains in critical condition. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated
The McDonald County Sheriff's Office says Martinez was in the area where the shooting occurred because he had a prior relationship with an individual in that location and that the relationship ended in a hostile manner. Martinez is also currently a suspect in an arson investigation in Bentonville, Arkansas, where he attempted to burn the other individual’s vehicle.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
