Wilson County Extends EMS Agreement, Negotiations Continue

Wilson County will extend the current agreement for EMS services in Neodesha, with negotiations for the future to continue up until July.

That's the latest from this week's commission meeting, which began with county commissioners entering executive session for 30 minutes with the county attorney. Commissioner Jerry Scott made the motion to take no action at this time.

A number of Wilson County citizens were present at the meeting to voice opinions on the issue. One individual says he's disappointed with the lack of collaboration between the county.

In earlier discussions, the commission asked the City of Neodesha to receive multiple proposals for long-term plans for reliable EMS service. Scott says there has been misinformation spread in recent weeks as well.

Neodesha City Administrator Brogan Jones was present on behalf of Neodesha. He says Fredonia never issued a full proposal to consider.

Following a rejected motion of approving the one-cent sales tax to Fredonia Hospital, the commission elected to extend the current model by a 2-1 vote. Commissioner Andrew Miller says, in the end, it was about what's best for constituents.

The commission will meet next on December 3rd at 9 a.m. in the Wilson County Courthouse in Fredonia.
