South Coffeyville Bond Fails By One Vote for Second Time

The bond election for South Coffeyville Public Schools fails by just one vote for the second time in a row.

Exactly 100 more residents voted this time than during the last bond attempt at 363, with 217 voting in favor and 146 against the $1.4 million bond issue.  In order to pass, the bond needed a super majority or 60% of the vote. Despite more voting yes than no the bond fell just shy of the 60% at 59.8%. One more yes vote or one less no vote would have seen the bond passed.

Had it passed, South Coffeyville would have used the money for repairs to the roof, windows, sidewalks, brick siding and HVAC on school buildings. The money was also planned to go towards a storm shelter for the community. The official vote tally still needs to be certified by Nowata County.
