Off-Duty Sheriff's Deputy Involved in Shooting in SW MO

 

A southwest Missouri Sheriff's deputy shoots an armed man while off-duty.

 

The incident happened on Sunday in Powell, MO, about 20 miles southeast of Neosho in McDonald County. The deputy was at home when he noticed an unknown vehicle parked in his driveway. He learned the vehicle had been reported stolen in Texas following a check of the license plate and VIN. As the deputy was waiting for an on-duty law enforcement officer to arrive, a white male approached him and the vehicle. When the deputy identified himself as a member of the McDonald County Sheriff's Department, the man began to back away. He then produced a gun and fire at the deputy, striking him in th leg. The deputy returned fire, hitting the suspect.

 

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The deputy was treated and released. He has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation. Neither man's name has been released.
