A pair of USD 446 educators have been nominated by the district for representation in the Kansas Teacher of the Year Awards.
Kindergarten teacher Mary Swearingen has been chosen as the Early Education nominee, serving as a teacher for over 20 years at Eisenhower Elementary. She says it's truly a special feeling to be recognized at this level.
As the secondary education nominee, the district has selected IMS teacher Whitney Woodward. She says the district has changed her and her family's life.
To qualify for nomination, teachers must have five years of experience in classroom and be recognized as respected and innovative leaders who inspire students. Both Swearingen and Woodward will complete an application for the Kansas Teacher of the Year Award, with semifinalists to be announced in early 2026.
