A Humboldt man is dead after being hit by a train in Allen County.

 

Allen County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene on 4000 Street just east of US-59 southeast of the City of Mildred just before 8am yesterday. They discovered the victim identified as Dustin Vanatta deceased beside the railroad tracks. The man's vehicle was found parked nearby.

 

Investigators say it appears that Vanatta drove to the tracks, exited his vehicle, and then stepped between the rails where he was struck by a southbound Union Pacific train.

 

The incident remains under investigation.
