A Kansas non-profit group is helping out residents in Alaska following an October typhoon that left 22 remote coastal communities devastated.
Jeremy and Nicole Sheffler operate a non-profit called Cow Team 6 that they formed after Hurricane Helene hit the southeast U.S. last year. The organization donates food and supplies to victims of natural disasters. Now, Cow Team 6 is working to supply remote Alaskan villages with thousands of pounds of beef.
The affected communities that rely on subsistence hunting and fishing lost their supplies of fish and other foods they had stored for the coming winter. The Shefflers say they need to raise $50,000 in order to purchase the beef and then transport it to Alaska. The couple hopes to have the supplies ready to send in the next two weeks.
