The final lead awareness workshop in Montgomery County is tonight in Cherryvale.
Over the past few weeks, workshops have taken place in Caney, Coffeyville and Independence, and both children and even adults with high blood-lead levels have been identified. The event tonight is free to attend and there will be door prizes, food and same-day screenings. Speakers will also share information about how to decrease lead exposure, which continues to impact southeast Kansas, not only from lead paint, but also from remnants of the area's lead mining and processing industry.
Tonight's event starts at 6 p.m. at the Cherryvale Community Center at 712 Liberty Street.
