The City of Coffeyville discusses strategies to handle the issue of stray dogs.

 

At Tuesday's city commission meeting, a Coffeyville resident asked commissioners to do something about the problem of stray dogs running loose. City Manager Ben Brubaker says the City has been looking at ways to step up enforcement in an effort to solve the problem.

 

Brubaker says the City began placing more of an emphasis on animal control and code enforcement in August.

 

Among possible solutions is that the City is working on a partnership with a local group that would like to implement a formal animal fostering program. The City has received comments from residents on both sides of the stray animal issue, causing tempers to flare at times. Brubaker says the City is looking for solutions that will be workable for both sides, but that it will take time.
