Representatives from the Southeast Kansas Community Action Program or SEK-CAP ask Montgomery County for funding assistance.
SEK-CAP Community Engagement Coordinator Casey Brown and Director of Transportation Scott Christiansen appeared before the Montgomery County Commission yesterday to request financial support from the county. Christiansen says a budget shortfall has left the agency unable to continue to provide General Public Trnasportation services, called Mo-Goes.
Christiansen added that the agency is looking into grant options that would allow the service to continue on a 3-day-per-week basis for maybe another six weeks. Commissioner Robert Bever says he sees the value of the service, but that the county has also recently been forced to do some financial belt-tightening.
Montgomery County recently cut several million dollars from the county budget after a procedural error forced county to remain revenue neutral for 2026.
