An Independence traffic stop leads to an arrest.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when an off-duty Kansas Highway Patrol trooper reported a possible drunk driver. As he watched the suspect vehicle, the trooper reportedly heard a gunshot. When officers from the Independence Police Department responded to the scene near 10th and Laurel and pulled the vehicle over, they discovered the driver with a BAC of almost twice the legal limit. The driver had also allegedly discharged a firearm while attempting to unload a pistol.
The suspect was then taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
