City of Independence Agrees to Terms With USD 446 Over Sports Complex

The City of Independence reaches an agreement with USD 446 over the use of the school district of the baseball and softball fields at the Central Park Sports Complex.

The agreement was approved at last night's City Commission meeting and comes after several months of negotiations between the two groups. The 10-year lease will give the district priority use of the fields in exchange for $70,000 a year. City Manager Kelly Passauer says the agreement also contains a transfer of land from the district to the city.

Commissioner Tim Emert says a lot of effort went into finding an agreement that would satisfy both parties.

The agreement gives school baseball and softball teams priority use of the facilities. It goes into effect on January 1.
