A child with elevated blood-lead levels is identified at this week's lead awareness workshop in Caney. Organizer Dorothy Shaffer with the Caney Valley Agape Network says almost 30 people were tested on Tuesday.
Shaffer says a representative from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment says that more testing is needed in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Local Health Equity Action Team is hosting another event today in Coffeyville with lots of door prizes, information on reducing lead exposure, gardening information, and same-day testing. It all starts at 6 p.m. at the Coffeyville Rec Center in Walter Johnson Park. Additional workshops will be held next Tuesday in Independence at Memorial Hall and next Thursday at the Cherryvale Community Center.
