Drug Found in Car after Traffic Stop

The Parsons Police Department arrests a Parsons man following a traffic stop leading to the discovery of suspected narcotics in his vehicle.

An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Appleton Avenue after observing a red Chevrolet HHR with a defective headlight. The driver was identified as John Edward Logan. While speaking with Logan, the officer noted erratic behavior and statements that raised suspicion. After confirming his driver's license and registration, the officer requested assistance from the Labette County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy and K9 Benny responded to the scene. K9 Benny conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Officers then conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle and discovered a small baggie containing a white crystalline substance, a straw commonly used for drug ingestion and a large decorative sword near the center console.

The suspected narcotic tested positive for methamphetamine using field test kits. Logan was placed under arrest and transported to the Parsons Police Department, where he refused field sobriety testing and a voluntary blood draw. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was collected by Labette EMS personnel. All evidence was processed and secured by the Parsons Police Department.
