Miami School Bond Fails; District Aims for 2026 Retry

A $14.7 million no-tax increase proposal to build a new elementary school in Miami fails by two votes.

In Tuesday’s special election, Miami, with 10,143 current voter registration records, saw 438 yes votes and 294 no votes against the proposal. With 60% yes votes needed to pass, the proposal fell .16%, or two votes shy of passing.

Miami Schools Superintendent Jill Douthit said she plans to reevaluate her efforts and present another version of the proposal, either in February or April of 2026.
