Crawford County Commission to Vote on Annexation for Potential Solar Project

Crawford County commissioners will hold final say on annexation of land for a projected half-billion dollar solar project near Mulberry.

Shasta Power is leasing over 1,600 acres owned by multiple landowners; those landowners are asking to annex to the City of Mulberry. The property is located on Highway 69, six miles southwest of Mulberry. If approved, the project would bring up to 250 construction jobs during the 18-month build phase and ten permanent positions. The city of Mulberry could see tax revenue from Shasta starting as early as January 1st.

Shasta's $500 million investment would include $200 million for battery storage technology.

The annexation request has been approved by the Mulberry City Council.

Shasta representatives say Crawford County commissioners must address three issues; whether landowners requested the annexation, whether landowners have consented to it, and whether the annexation would block future development. So far, the commission has looked at the land annexation, but no details about the solar project.

Once the city of Mulberry sends the annexation request, the county has 30 days to respond.
