Candidates for the USD 446-Independence School Board address the issues at a recent candidate forum.
The forum was organized last week by the Independence Chamber of Commerce. The five candidates running for the USD 446 Board are Ben Seel, Sam Blackard, Jeff Carnes, Deborah Fox, and Daniel McDill. Each candidate was asked to name his or her priority issue.
Candidate Ben Seel says his major issue is transparency.
Sam Blackard says he wants to focus on attracting and retaining high-quality teachers.
Candidate Jeff Carnes agreed with Blackard that the most important task for the Independence School Board should be finding ways to keep good teachers in the district.
Candidate Daniel McDill says he would like to see the district make a stronger effort to partner with local businesses.
The five candidates are vying for three at-large seats on the USD 446 School Board and all will appear on the November 4th ballot. The entire forum can be viewed at this link.
